Welcome                                                                                                                                                 updated Dec 6, 2007

Welcome to the Little Redskins Wrestling Club!  The wrestling club is for any Morris area 1st through 8th grader interested in learning wrestling skills in a fun and competitive way.

The club was founded in 2003 by our head coach, Brian McTague, a 3-Time NCAA Champion and Illinois High School State Champion.  Brian is currently the LRWC Board President and the head coach of the Morris Community High School varsity wrestling team.

We are a club member of the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation, IKWF, and sanctioned by USA Wrestling, USAW.  The type of wrestling taught is folk style and follows National High School Federation rules with IKWF modified weight classes and match time periods.

Parent Participation

We require all parents to help out during our annual Little Redskins Invitational schedule on Sun Dec 30, 2007.  We also ask parents or older siblings to help out at home dual meets as a volunteer.  Help setting up the mats before and after practice is also appreciated.

Schedule

The schedule will be updated throughout the season.  The schedule's upper right hand corner shows the post date.  Updates will be available with the handouts at practices, here at the website and through the LRWC News Group.

Practices

Regular practices are Mon - Wed - Fri starting promptly at 5:30 pm and are held at White Oak Elementary.  Everyone should enter through the Cafetorium on the building's north side, west door.  Maroon & White (First years and all 10 & Under) will practice until 7:00 pm in the Cafetorium.  Varsity (Advanced 10 & Above) will practice until 7:30 pm in the varsity wrestling room.  Some Saturday practices might be held for the Novices & Seniors.  We ask that you bring your child to practice in shorts, T-shirt and warm-ups.  Warm-ups should be removed and wrestling shoes put on in the cafeteria area.

Dual Meets

All home dual meets will be at the Morris High School.  Warm-ups start at 5:00 pm and wrestling start at 5:30 pm.  There were 4 home dual meets in 2007 - 2008.  We recommend wearing team warm-ups over our team singlets before and after competition.  Please put your child’s name on all personal items to avoid loss.

Tournaments

The team traveled to approximately 12 Sunday tournaments in 2007 - 2008.  Some members travel to more on their own.  Tournament entry fees are usually $8-$15.  Entry fee due dates are strictly enforced and will be posted with the schedule.

How to Join

If you are interested in joining the club for the 2007-2008 season, late registration is available by downloading the forms and contacting Tony Bonic.

Team Uniform & Head Gear

The fee includes the team singlet, IKWF/USAW membership, limited medical and liability insurance and a subscription to USA Wrestling magazine.  Every wrestler is responsible for their own wrestling shoes and team head gear.  Wrestling shoes and head gear will be available at registration.  1st - 5th graders are responsible for grey warm-ups and embroidery.  6th - 8th graders will be issued a team warm-up.

Parent Coaches

Qualified parents who might be interested in helping out during practice should speak to Brian McTague, Tony Bonic or Jeff Shaw.  Many parents with little or no previous wrestling experience have proven to be very beneficial during practice.  Interested parents will need to fill out the coach’s form and pay the nominal IKWF/USAW coach’s membership fee.

The IKWF/USAW coach’s membership is required for any parent who would like to be on the mat with their child primarily because it includes the medical and liability insurance required by IKWF/USAW.  Coach's membership may be attained anytime throughout the year.
